Best shade tree for texan's back yard?

Hi, I%26#039;m trying to get some idea of a good, moderately fast growing tree to plant in my back yard. I have very clay sticky soil with nice plush grass on top. My back yard slightly slopes down to the east and is moderatly large size yard. I would like a tree that gives shade, will tolerate drought conditions and does not have those pesky flowers that bloom and spred pollin. I%26#039;d like to purchase it kinda small and let it grow over time, I%26#039;m not looking to plant a $500 fully grown oak tree.

I%26#039;d just like to hear any suggestions on trees I can research for my area. I was concidering a cotton wood, but my neighbor is allergic and I%26#039;d hate for my pretty tree to cause her any discomfort. No, I don%26#039;t like pine trees, or scrub brush. I don%26#039;t mind raking leaves. I am interested in the (hope this is right) buford pear tree (not a fruiting tree). I love those trees, but they seem to grow slow. Any advise, tree names or anything helpful is appriciated.

It really depends on what part of Texas you live in. The soil and climate conditions vary so much. I would suggest you contact you county agricultural agent for answers. They have that kind of information and it is specific for your area.

Stay away from Chinese tallow trees. They are very invasive and have an extremely short life. They were on our lot in Houston and they very messy.

My personal favorite is the live oak. They grow faster than more folks realize. They are basically pest free and provide shade all year. Other oaks are also very nice.

Buford pears are not really a shade tree but rather an ornamental tree.

Cotton woods are also very messy and their %26quot;cotton%26quot; gets all over everything.

In some parts of Texas you can grow maple trees. We had two in Houston and they did very well. The only draw back is their roots. They tend to grow very close to the surface of the ground.

There is a book called %26quot;Plants of the Metroplex%26quot; that is written specifically for Dallas-Fort Worth. Look for a copy. It is by Garret Howard
Reply:Pecan of course......they are native to here grow fast and will give you lots of nuts.....planted 2 3 foot trees.... 7 years ago and they are over 10 feet tall and about 6 feet wide

They grow like weeds. Most god-awful messy tree, though. Loses limbs like crazy, leaves don%26#039;t decompose, but make a lot a shade. They%26#039;ll grow in concrete, too. Dump some seeds in your yard, and let %26#039;em go.

What do I need to make bouquets for my wedding?

Okay, I looked for questions already asked for this but most of them were concerning silk flowers. I am using REAL fresh flowers, they will be arriving next Thursday, and my wedding is Saturday. I need to know what all I will need in order to make my bouquet, my 4 bridesmaids bouquets, the boutonnières, and the pin on corsages. I want to go ahead and purchase the stuff I will need this weekend. By the way the flowers I am using are white %26amp; light pink roses, and they are trimming the thorns before they ship them. Please give me a list of what I will need, and possible places to buy this. Thank you!

Reply:You need floral tape, floral pins, decorative pins for the boutonnieres and corsages, floral wire, good scissors, ribbon and depending on the style of bouquets, floral oasis. I would also get a book on doing this--as well as help. I would also suggest you get some similar flowers to what you%26#039;re using THIS weekend, and make a trial or 2 (or 5) with both bouquets and boutonnieres (which is basically a small corsage). JoAnns or Michaels will have all the supplies you need. I think they even have a wire holder for corages and boutonnieres.

Also, make certain you%26#039;ve got room in a fridge for all this. Once you%26#039;ve made it all, you%26#039;ll need to keep it refrigerated. And the longer you can keep stems in water, the better--so don%26#039;t wrap ribbon around the stems until right before the wedding--and after you%26#039;ve made the bouquets, keep them in a small bucket of water in the fridge.

Reply:Go to fabric store. Buy 6%26quot; or 8%26quot; bridal lace x 3ft. per bouquet. 1%26quot; or 2%26quot; ribbon matching MOH/bridesmaid dress colors, allowing for 2 x 3ft%26#039; per bouquet. Your ribbon should be 3 shades darker than light pink roses (or you will wash-out in pictures).

Use clear 2%26quot;packing tape to hold rose stems %26amp; fern together firmly. Wrap the lace around this, covering the tape but leaving approx. 3%26quot; of green stem sticking out if you want a soft look or totally mummy wrapped (doesn%26#039;t look as nice). Use a good 2-sided tape to secure lace. Cut 2x 3ft. of matching ribbon, go around lace a couples of times and let hang down long. By using 2 long strips of ribbon they will %26#039;fall%26#039; nicely in 4 separate pieces. If you wanted, you could even cut out 9%26quot; pie plate round (depending on size of your bouquet) of tuile or plain white bridal lace, cut hole in center and pass entire bouquet through it, secure all around with 2-sided tape to really do a professional job.

Boutonnières a real *$%# to make stay together unless you have the special green tape florists do, which is expensive in small quantity and difficult to source. I would just have florist do them and save yourself a lot of grief!!, lol

Have someone hold a spare roll of 2-sided tape. That stuff amazing...dress drooping down....2-sided tape, flower repair...2-sided tape!!

Reply:Depends on the size of the bulb .What size are they? Where from?This year, assuming avg size bulbs ,3%26#039; plants , with 2-6 flowers /stem. Well-established ones will have 2-3 stems , 4-6%26#039; high, with 8-12 buds, maybe as many as 20.
Reply:1 plant per bulb, the first year each bulb should put off (hopefully) 1 flower spike that hopefully will contain 3-5 flowers.

It all began in December when the Entrepreneurship Class started to prepare for Valentines Day. The school store stalked up on balloons, stuffed bears, and little gift bags with candy and a little bear. When Valentines Day drew nearer they received three different colors of roses and carnations.

Students who want to make a purchase should hurry soon because the most popular items are balloons and flowers. After the Valentine rush is gone you most likely will end up with a stuffed animal. Orders for these items started as soon as February 4th.

Jessica McNally and Katie Harrison are excellent students when it comes to the Entrepreneurship Class and they both find this class easy. However, Harrison said, “During Valentines Day it’s really hectic and people are demanding.” This shows how even though this Hallmark Holiday is about love sometimes people forget to share it with everyone instead of just one person.

Many students ask why they should purchase items at the school store. The truth is its convenient and it benefits the school. Grant said, “The profit is used to go get other supplies. Without a little higher price we would just have to sell pencils.”

The Entrepreneurship Class helps students learn what to purchase and how to advertise. This class is as real life as possible. There are four different divisions you can partake in; there is management, production, advertising, and sales. Grant enjoys working with the school store because it is real life. The students have to be time managers to get the everyday duties done and do book work which makes some days busier than others.

Fondant problems!! Need help before mothers day!!?

Im attempting to attach my fondant flowers to the florist wire i purchased..I made marshmallow fondant about a week ago and cut out some of the flowers..i didnt get them all done because mom came home.. ive put them in a container with parchment paper and left it open for the week and theyre not dry still..i attempted to attach one to the wire yesterday while mom was out and it didnt work does any one have any suggestions on how i should go about doing this?? im making the daisys go crazy cake from the mothers day section on wilton.com

I can%26#039;t really provide immediate help for your current trouble with the fondant flowers, because I think the problems you%26#039;re having are because of the marshmallow fondant.

I teach cake decorating classes, and when I share the marshmallow fondant recipe with my students, I advise them to use it only for covering cakes. It is too soft and does not hold up well, in my experiences, for modeling figures and flowers.

In the future, when you model flowers out of fondant, you can either knead in Gum Tex, a strengthener (add 1 teaspoon per 12 oz. of fondant, knead it together inside a plastic bag so none of the Gum Tex powder is %26quot;lost%26quot;) or mix equal parts of fondant and gum paste (also used to make flowers) together. The fortified fondant or fondant/gum paste blend is stronger than plain fondant and more resistant to tearing, and will also dry faster. I don%26#039;t know how well this method will work with the marshmallow fondant, but it works well with Wilton fondant.

Either way, I would recommend using prepared/purchased fondant (Wilton or another brand) for modeling figures and flowers; the marshmallow fondant is too soft and/or doesn%26#039;t come out exactly the same every time you make it.

Listen. I am probably one of the few people who have been to Nigeria. I am not trying to put the country down,but they are very smart with the internet and scams. Nigeria is nationally known for their scams. Be aware! I would advise you to get in touch with a contact of your friend and get them to set up something for you. I was their working on building a church. My wife sent me a package that never showed up. I suggest you continue to send your support by word. I don%26#039;t know if you know of people going to and from Nigeria, but that is another option.

Old flower seeds?

A year or so ago I purchased a couple of the %26quot;roll out%26quot; hummingbird/butterfly garden flower rolls. The bottom of the boxes say %26quot;Packed for 2005.%26quot; I never got around to doing anything with them so they have been in the basement all this time.

I don%26#039;t know anything about growing flowers--is there a chance these are still worth trying to grow them?

seeds are funny things! Some will germinate after years and then some don%26#039;t after following all the instructions and care.

I reckon give them a go and see what comes up. If nothing comes up after say 2-3 weeks then you will know that they were too old to germinate.

I wouldn%26#039;t throw them out as they may still grow. Have a go.
Reply:Sure there is. Seeds found in old tombs in Egypt have germinated after all those years. The manufacturer has to put a date on there by law. Usually the seeds are as good in several years as they were on the day of purchase if they have been taken care of.
Reply:Probably not - the inside of seeds contains enough %26quot;food%26quot; for the ungerminated seed to survive for only so long. You can try it - there%26#039;s nothing to lose - but I wouldn%26#039;t be surprised if you did not get many flowers.
Reply:Food for the new plant is inside the seed. Seeds that have been stored for many years have sprouted. The percentage of germination goes down with time, and for a bunch of flower seeds packaged for 2005 should be quite good for 2007, especially if they have been stored in a cool dry place.

Solving for g in the second equation: g = 200 - f and substituting in to equation 1:

7400 = 25f + 9000 - 45f =

1600 = 20f

f = 80 sets

Plugging this in to the second equation:

200 = 80 + g

My petunia's leaves are turning dark brown...?

I purchased a hanging basket of mixed flowers about 2 weeks ago from a discount store. There are petunias and daisies as well as other contrasting plants. I transplanted this plant to a planter that hangs on my house. A week later the leaves started to turn black/dark brown. They are NOT dry and there are NO bugs. The ground is moist but not dripping. The color change/diseased area has now spread to the other end of the planter. It causes the plant to eventually dry up and die. I have moved this planter away from the rest of plants in the yard as I am afraid this might be a virus/fungus.

Transplanting probably put them in shock. I doubt if you can save them.
Reply:Petunias%26#039; foliage will turn brown when they are at a certain stage in their growth cycle. If you prune them back they will come back with a second flush of healthy growth and blooms.

WIthout seeing your plants it is difficult for me to say if that is the problem.

Can a jeweler recut and reset a stone?

I have a ring that has a flower shaped gem. I%26#039;d like to replace the gem with a different stone, but there aren%26#039;t many flower shaped stones available for purchase. It is in a bezel flower setting - not prong. Would it be difficult to find a jeweler in ny that can cut a stone of my choosing to a flower shape that can be reset in the band? I am an appreciater of photography and while watching a show about the %26quot;drug years%26quot; of the 1960%26#039;s %26amp; 70%26#039;s on VH1 some black %26amp; white pictures were shown. Someone told me who took picture, and it%26#039;s name. Completely forget name of photographer name was New York(?) Went looking for my question and could not find it. It was under heading:Any old hippie around. At the time searched photographer and name of poster and got no hits. If you had one in mint condition it would be worth a fortune. With luck that person will give you the exact information your looking for.

You%26#039;ll want to use silk. Once you step on the freeze dried they crumble in to many tiny pieces and if you have a train of any kind on your gown they will become stuck in it. Also sometimes there are still color pigments that can be released when crushed - also getting in to and staining your gown.

Reply:Especially if it is going to be inside a building, even moreso if they have carpet, use silk, freeze dried and fresh have been known to leave dye/color on the carpet you will spend hours scrubbing out so the church/building doesnt freak.

If it is outside, use freeze dried so they will dispose of themselves within nature.

Silk roses can look amazing but once you take them apart the single artificial petals always look fake in pics for some reason no matter how good they are.

Perhaps use an alternative to petals since you don%26#039;t like real flowers....lavendar, leaves, artifical snow, something like that.

Reply:Make sure you are allowed to drop petals. Many places don%26#039;t allow it anymore because of the mess. Michaels sells silk rose petals in all colors and they are very pretty. The have the color and an iridiscent one in the package.

In case you still care, freeze dried rose petals don%26#039;t pollute as much as silk flowers in their creation. I feel I must warn you, however, they are from real flowers. If its any consolation, they%26#039;re dead.

Reply:If you have an outdoor wedding, many places won%26#039;t allow silk. I used freeze dried outside, and they didn%26#039;t crumble into tiny pieces either. You just leave them in the bathroom when you shower and they soften up before you use them. I just googled freeze dried petals and came up with tons of sites.

What kind of lilly? Calla lillies will nedd a rest period, and kept indoors in the winter. Canna lillies, ditto. Many other lillies can be planted directly outside, and they will come up next year. Look up care tips for your particular kind of lilly

Reply:Callas, cannas %26amp; amaryllis can be kept in the ground year round. If you%26#039;re in a cold climate, cover them with wood chips before the first frost.

Most bulbs do well being dug up before the first frost and stored in brown paper bags with wood chips %26amp; kept in a cool dry place (basement, garage, etc). They should be replanted in February or March %26amp; covered with wood chips, as a little bit of cold helps stimulate them to grow the following spring. Good luck!

Online shopping for weddings?

I use to be a wedding planner. Online is useful for many things. Why on earth would anyone consider buying a wedding gown, jewelery, flowers, etc., online? Especially the gown!!!

If you can%26#039;t touch it, you don%26#039;t know if you like the feel. If you can%26#039;t actually see it, you don%26#039;t know if it%26#039;s the exact color you want. If you can%26#039;t try it on, you won%26#039;t know if it suits your body, something VERY IMPORTANT. And, you end up paying for alterations that most stores will do for free if you purchase from them.

The same with linens, flowers. Unless you can see and feel them, you won%26#039;t know if they are just right, or if they match.

The same applies for everything else. I%26#039;ve had many couples disappointed with online purchases for weddings.

Online is great for ideas, but when it comes to the real thing, you should go with a vendor in your area so you can deal with them in person in case of a problem, such as receiving your items on time, and in time to make changes.

I am also a wedding planner and see no problem with on-line purchases. I have worked with Brides that have purchased several items on the web. Like anything else you would purchase on-line you have to be smart. Check the return policies, shipping polices, order in plenty of time to recieve your items and try to purchase from a credible source. You can find some great deals as well as saving some time especially if you are on a tight budget. My rule when purchasing a bridesmaid gown or wedding gown on-line are the following:

1. MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE and then Measure again! If you can get professionally measured from a seamstress then do so. Can%26#039;t stress that enough! Ad hear to the size chart given by the vendor. 2. Try to use a vendor with a return policy. Just in case you are not happy with your purchase once it%26#039;s recieved.

3. Definately go to a Davids Bridal or Group USA type store and try on everything! This will help you decide what looks best on your figure. Then look for simular styles online if you don%26#039;t find exactly what you want or want to find something at a cheaper price point.

I have worked with Brides that spend and average of $5,000 -$6,000 on their entire wedding so cutting costs are essential. It all depends on what is most important to the Bride. If flowers are extremely important to her than maybe going to a local vendor is the better choice than purchasing flowers online. It all depends on the Bride and what she%26#039;s comfortable with. I as a planner often find the items on-line and lead the bride to credible vendors. There%26#039;s nothing wrong with getting items on-line you just have to be smart about it! Just some of my comments when shopping on-line for wedding items.

We are renting chair covers online. Around here the cheapest you can get them is $7 and it goes up from there!! I rented them for $3 each including shipping! My friend is going to put them on for me because I put them on for her daughters wedding.

Reply:You can get just as easily hosed by a face-to-face vendor as you can shopping on line. Bottom line is the bride is either willing to do her homework to find reliable vendors or she isn%26#039;t. Personally I have done my wedding almost exclusively online since I am planning it cross-country. I%26#039;ve saved thousands and been very happy with everything I%26#039;ve purchased. The same applies to every bride I%26#039;ve work for.

If you aren%26#039;t comfortable with online shoppping that is your choice but don%26#039;t make it sound like the only way to get screwed or make a bad purchase is over the internet. If anything, shops are worse because they have their salespeople constantly in your face about what you %26quot;have to have%26quot; at the wedding.

Can someone give me info on a Pagoda plant?

I bought one at the county extension service today and was told that it would flower. What I found on Yahoo search showed a picture of the plant I purchased but it had no flowers.

I did not ask the agent questions on care, planting, etc. as I thought I could find it on the net. Now I regret not asking and hope someone out there can help me.

Pagoda plants are very pretty indeed. However, in our area

zone 9, they are quite invasive. They propagate from the roots, meaning they send up new shoots. In a year, one plant will become four and so on. Depends upon where you live. The blossoms are quite lovely. Do go to the web site the previous person suggested. Lots of information there.

When I got married a few years ago, it was an at-home wedding.

It was in my aunt%26#039;s house and at Christmas time. I have always admired how she decorated her home.

After the wedding, there were several comments made about how much my wedding cost her and my other aunt.

My husband and I paid for the cake, flowers and rings. The only clothing purchased was my outfit ($35) and my MOH ($50). She choose to purchase an outfit for her daughter to be a bride%26#039;s maid (without my consent because the 6 year old was jealous).

The second aunt paid for the food. I went shopping with her and kept the cost down ($80).

All the other things (painting her kitchen, wallpaper, stenciling the walls, wall sconces and candles and more floral decorations) was their ideas and she, of course, kept them. There was also more decorations bought for her new 12 ft. Christmas tree.

The total comes to over $1,000. They say that was the cost of my wedding. I say that was the cost of her re-decorating

Sorry but I doubt you were complaining when she offered the place. I say get over it because not likely you could get a site for that amount. And when you do get sites, they have cost that includes their decorations, etc. They have to repaint, etc every so often and have that as part of their annual operating budget so in long run you would be charged there also.

I say you have hurtful feelings for something else. You did say this was a few years ago. Time to let go.

Ok based on the additional details I think you need to sit down with each or all together, whichever you can handle and say to them what you have said to us. Once you come clean on how you feel it will either force them to drop it or allow you to say you are done talking about this. Ask them what kind of payment system they can set up and possibly that will embarrass them enough that they get the point.

Then walk off and don%26#039;t speak to them for a while and see what happens. Honestly, if they have any heart, they won%26#039;t accept the money. If they accept the money and never say anything else, they are selfish and you don%26#039;t need them.

D80 or D200 or D300?

I am new to digital photography. I like taking photos of everything from bugs, to flowers, to landscapes and people.

I purchases a D40 about a month ago and I am already thinking about upgrading. I eventually would like to do wedding photography.

I%26#039;m afraid if I purchase the D80 I won%26#039;t be happy with it. But I am worried about the weight of the D200. I just have in my mind that for the long run the D200 would be better.

Or I could just wait for the D300 to become available...hmmm...

Opinions anyone?

D80 or D200 or D300?
The D40 will do a phenomenon job at weddings if you know how to use it correctly. I%26#039;ve been using an old Canon 10D 6MP for the past few years doing well and I%26#039;m learning new techniques every day.

If you want to upgrade, the D200 is rated at one of the best wedding camera. Since you have the D40, why not use it? Invest in lenses because the body will become outdated (with current technology) in a few years while the lenses will be useful for many years to come. The best wedding and portrait lens in my book is the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR (IS for Canon). But since you worry about the weight, the D200 isn%26#039;t that much heavier than the D40.

PS: If you want to wait, use the D40 until the D300 comes out in a year or two.
Reply:the camera of choice for weddings is the fuji s3pro or s5pro because it has 2 sensors and gives a better tone/colour range that you need when you are taking pics with such a big contrast ie black suit/white dress.the same qualitys make it ideal for all other uses.
Reply:Fuji S5. It is compatible with all Nikon Lenses and flash units etc. The main difference is the sensor which shows skin tones much better. The Fuji S3 was a work horse for wedding photographers for years. They didn%26#039;t release an S4 so the S5 is the current replacement. Early signs are that this is a better camera than even the S3.

Reply:The Nikon d40 is a good camera, but not so much if you%26#039;re looking to make a business out of it. Why would someone pay you money, if they have the same equipment as you? What I mean by this, is that the D40 is so widely used, many many many people have it.

Yes, it will be good for a while, but six megapixels and only autofocuses with new DX lenses. This means, no AF with older prime lenses.

The D80 is a very good camera, as it the D200. If you%26#039;re worried about weight, you%26#039;ll be surprised to find you%26#039;ll soon get used to it. I read on another answer, a person suggesting the Fuji S5 Pro. This is an exact copy of the D200. Same everything, except for the sensor. The Fuji uses a special 12 megapixel sensor that is basically split between large and small pixels. This means it will be excellent in all different kinds of light. I also think, since it%26#039;s split, it is now only 6 megapixels.

As for the D300, well, I don%26#039;t think its coming out anytime soon, such as in the next month or so. But, if you decide to get the D200, don%26#039;t be afraid of it being out of date. There are still professional photographers who use five year old DSLR%26#039;s, or even film cameras. True professionals use film in todays world.

Reply:Shopping online is safe. If you have never used their service before, I am not sure I would want to find out about their quality and reliability for my wedding. I use proflowers.com and have always been very happy with them.

Verizon warned me that someone had a phone in my name in a city where I do not live and do not have relatives. Someone called me last night from Florida and informed me that an unidentified person was using my personal information to make purchases. Several years ago, someone ordered flowers in my name at a florist shop in Montana--a place I have never been to--and that person apparently did not have the funds to cover a check written. I do not have contacts in these places, yet someone claiming to be me uses my information just as easily as if it were me. Enough is enough. What do I do America?

How do I tell the world that someone is using my personal information to make purchases?
You have let this go on for several years? You need your head examined for letting this go on and on. Identify theft is one of the fastest growing problems in the U.S!

Call your bank or credit union. Close all accounts and either reopen them with a different name, or move to another banking facility. Notify your credit card company and stop all charges to your credit card. You are entitled to one free credit report from all three agencies a year, and here%26#039;s where to start:

Notify any one of them that you want to file a Fraud Report. this only lasts for 90 days, but it%26#039;s a start. We plan on getting married outdoors (weather willing!) and are just having an arch decorated w/flowers. We aren%26#039;t purchasing an aisle runner because there is a flagstone path to walk down, but we are having a flower girl w/a basket of rose petals.

Our reception will be at a different location ~ so whatever decorations we have at the ceremony site will need to be easily/quickly removed. Does anyone have any ideas?

Personally, I think what you have planned sounds perfect! I would leave it at that and enjoy the beauty that will be surrounding you. I like the idea of the arch with flowers and no aisle runner. I hate to sound cliche, but the old saying is true....%26quot;less is more.%26quot; It will also be much easier for you to simply throw the arch in someone%26#039;s vehicle and that will be the extent of your cleanup. Really, nothing else is needed in my opinion.

Even if you appoint someone to do this task, you can%26#039;t exactly be pushing guests out of the way to take down stuff AS they are leaving. You%26#039;re going to have to suck it up and purchase separate decor for your reception site.
Reply:I think that if you wanted to move decorations, keep it simple. Maybe line the pathway with little pots of flowers, and then use them for your centerpieces? I think that could be really inexpensive and if you measure out the path, then not too much to move. ( Like do one every few feet or so )
Reply:I think that it is a good idea to keep it simple the day of the wedding. I think moving decorations would be a nightmare. You will need separate decorations I think. I did have my guest book and a few photos taken from one site to another.

My other recommendation is to find beautiful places to have your wedding so that decorations will be minimal. I got married around the same time as one of my friends. We paid a little bit more to rent this beautiful chapel and spent very little on decor or flowers. She had hers at the church we grew up at which was really ugly. She spent more money trying to make an ugly place look pretty than if she had just rented the pretty place. And it was a much bigger headache!!

Why are the flower buds on my Hibiscus falling off before they bloom?

I bought a Hibiscus plant last year and this happened constantly. The new buds would form but before they would open (flower) the buds would fall off the stem. It was in a clay pot and even when I would get flowers they would fall off very quickly. I ended up transferring the plant to the ground and am waiting to see what happens. So far, so good, and I have one bloom about to open.

This year I bought 2 new Hibiscus plants and the same thing is happening. The buds just fall off the end of the stem before I see a flower. When I bought the plants they had at least 1 to 2 open flowers on each plant.

They are planted in large clay pots w/ potting soil, get watered every 2-3 days, get full sun in morning and part of the afternoon and get fertilizer as required.

Are the pots too small, not enough soil? (I have put them in larger pots and than they came in when purchased), Wrong fertilizer? (It says for flowering plants like Hibiscus), Too much/not enough water? Wrong type of soil?

Reply:Premature flower drop sometimes has to do with culivar selection! Sometimes it is insects living in the plant. Environmental conditions can even cause the buds to drop.

Sounds like you are supplying them with the proper light, water and fertilizer requirements. How big are the pots you put them in compared to the root mass? They may be in pots too big for their root mass, and the water you may be giving them may not be enough, or too much depending on how long it takes for the pot to dry out. I know some plants do not like to be potted up, and it is possible that they are in a pot that is too big. (You could put two plants in a pot, depending on how big the plants and pots are!)

If you do choose to spray an insecticide, imidacloprid would work, but the insects must feed on it for it to work (it is not a contact insecticide). Imidacloprid is a systemic insecticide. It is taken up by the plant, so when an insect feeds on it, they eat the poison and die. You could spray a contact insecticide that will work on caterpillars and other pests. Something like a pyrethroid will work. These are sold in any home/garden store.

A word of caution... hibiscus are very sensitive to chemicals, so be careful when applying anything so you don%26#039;t hurt them!

Try to figure out if it is the environment causing the problem before you spray something that you may not need to spray!

Annual flowers will die after one lifecycle, so you would need to replant them each year. This is a very common problem that men often complain about.

Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0, thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program. Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING

SYSTEM and is designed by its Creator to run EVERYTHING!!! It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to return to Girlfriend 7.0. It is impossible to uninstall, or purge, the program files from the system once installed.

You cannot go back to Girlfriend 7.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed to not allow this. Look in your Wife 1.0! Manual under Warnings: Alimony-Child Support. I recommend that you keep Wife 1.0 and work on improving the situation. I suggest installing the background application Yes Dear 2.7 to alleviate your program problems.

The best course of action is to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE! because ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system will return to normal anyway.

Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance!

Wife 1.0 does come with several support programs, such as Clean and Sweep

3.0, Cook It 1.5, and Do Bills 4.2

However, be very careful how you use these programs. Improper use will cause the system to launch the program Nag Nag 9.5. Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend Flowers 2.1 and Diamonds 5.0

WARNING!!! DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Secretary With Short Skirt 3.3. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system!

Needs ordinary to rich well drained soil and full sun to partial shade. Prune by thinning out after flowering only. should flower on last years wood, probably the reason for not flowering.

Reply:All I can suggest is feeding it well - perhaps it%26#039;s hungry - and perhaps improving the soil around its base. If it%26#039;s any consolation, my honeysuckle only had about 6 flowers on it this year (although it is only 3 years old) - maybe they need time to establish themselves properly.
Reply:Make sure the ground has proper nutrients and not alot of weeds. They do like alot of sun too.

Reply:Seriously, you can%26#039;t do it. There is just no way to get cash from people for a bridal shower. The guests will not show up if they figure out what is happening.

You can have an inexpensive church wedding very easily, so I don%26#039;t understand why you feel the need to repost this item. Use the church social hall for the reception and provide cake and punch. The whole thing can be done very modestly and it will be lovely.

you cannot ask for money versus gifts....no matter how you play it; get the gifts and return them......you will offend your guests.....

1. Do your own invites on a computer at home...saves a ton

3. Have a friend videotape...trust me you never look at it after the 1st year. This can be in exchange for a gift.

4. Consider going dry at the reception--or just beer and wine

5. Get married on a Friday everything is cheaper

6. Have a friend DJ

I was lucky, my parents paid for mine, but there are ways to cut costs!

Reply:Unfortunately there is no way to ask for money without it being rude and tasteless. The best thing that you can do at this point is to help them have a ceremony within their budget and let them grow up. You do not need to take on the stress of this at all - you see like a caring person with a big heart and that is wonderful.

There is no problem in letting them know that everyone is tight with the economy right now so why not do a simple/yet wonderful wedding and have them save to do a vow renewal for an anniversary in a year or more that is more of the wedding that they really want.

Take it from me - we didn%26#039;t have anyone help us and we ended up getting married at the courthouse and will be renewing our vows with the ceremony of my dreams in our church for our 10th anniversary. It is not uncommon or tacky and if anyone says so ignore them.
Reply:Honestly, there is no way to do it. The best idea is to just plan an inexpensive afternoon wedding with cake and punch after the ceremony. Costco sells sheet cakes for about $16 that feed 48 people and you can provide punch, mints and other snack foods easily for under $200.

As others have already indicated, the marriage itself is the most important part of the day. Everything else is just trappings. As a guest, I would be happier to attend a simple afternoon wedding, than a big affair that I had to subsidize prior to the event. To me, a wedding loses some of it%26#039;s beauty when the couple is requesting guests to contribute towards the event.

The amount was immediately deducted from my CC but the flower never reached my friend. Yahoo is partly responsible for this cheating

I am getting married in August and the reception is in an outdoor/indoor high peak tent. Since the ceilings are very high I bought eiffel tower vases, which are the tall skinny vases. I think they%26#039;re 16%26quot;. Me and my fiance met b/c of a trip to jamaica that we both happened to go on and we really want to incorporate jamaica into the wedding in an elegant way. I have quite a few ideas so far but I%26#039;m stuck w/ the centerpieces. I%26#039;ve seen alot of great ideas and tips on here but nonetheless - I want to use pretty much all white flowers, orchids, hibiscus, hydrangea..i saw this pic on google

Reply:The picture is just so hard to tell. It%26#039;s really small. I%26#039;m using orchids also. You may want to consider some other flowers as well to mix in. Gladiolus for instance are striking, tall %26amp; available in white:

You probably don%26#039;t want everything to be tall though. You need some shorter flowers that will add depth to it as well, which is easy. I really like spider mums in white. The following pic is not white but they%26#039;re great for filler:

Recently I purchased a young flower horn. Everything seemed normal at first. But I noticed it was spitting back out the cichlid pellets i was feeding him/her. It also seems to be a afraid of me, running away in the opposite direction when i approach it. Can anyone help me?

Reply:They do that, they suck in the food and then spit it out, as long as the water is healthy and the fish is healthy, then he should be fine. Spitting the food out is normal, did you try feeding him bloodworms, brineshrimp, or cichlid flakes?? That is what I feed my cichlid, they are suppost to be on bloodworms and brineshrimp mainly but they perfer brineshrimp. I have the freeze dried. My cichlid swim away from me too when I aproach them.

There are some fish that freak out over the smallest things because you look like an empire state building compared to him. Some other fish will come up to the glass and follow your finger lol, leopard puffers do that. I dont think it is anything to really worry about, just dont over feed him, see if you can try the brine shrimp or bloodworms. Another thing, cichlids can be pretty picky about their food so I recommend those choices.

Help! Bird of Paradise Despair :(?

I live in Florida. My huband bought me a beautiful bird of paradise plant this past mother%26#039;s day. This plant was purchased at a flower shop supposedly facing a southern exposure. I placed it in my house in a ceiling to floor window facing north. I%26#039;m not a plant novice, so this one has me perplexed. It has started to decline and it seems that everything I%26#039;m reading regarding their care is controversial. Should they be watered deeply and allowed to dry out or should they be kept moist? Should they have bright light or full sun? I%26#039;ve since moved it outside in some sun, but the leaves are now starting to curl???

BIrd of Paradise are very awsome plants, they can get very tall and have giant leaves. So i suggest having it outside in partial shade to part sun in a warm area. If you are going to have it in a pot make sure it is a very big one because the roots are big and grow fast because the plant does get very big! And keep the soil well moist. I have some and i water them every day in the afternoon until the soil gets nice and soaked, the leaves are doing very good too.

Reply:i would put some vitamin B1 on it. or, even better, some Superthrive. and if you can, put it outside on an east facing wall, preferably under an overhang where the humidity will stay. in their native habitat of South Africa, i believe they have very nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. so mebbe try that? only, add some cracked ice (water-retaining organic granules that release water slowly to the plant%26#039;s roots). :)
