A restaurant manager wants to purchase 200 sets of dishes. The flower design costs $25 per set, while the geometric design costs $45 per set. If she only has $7400 in her budget to spend on dishes, how many of each design can she order?
Can someone help me solve this word problem?
Let x = number of flower designed dishes
25x+45(20-x)=7400
x=80
80 flower designed dishes and 120 geometric dishes...
Reply:Since we have two unknowns, we need two equations:
1. $7400 = $25*f + $45*g
2. 200 = f + g
where f = # of flower design and g = # of geometric design
Solving for g in the second equation: g = 200 - f and substituting in to equation 1:
7400 = 25f + 45(200 - f) =
7400 = 25f + 9000 - 45f =
1600 = 20f
f = 80 sets
Plugging this in to the second equation:
200 = 80 + g
g = 120 sets
